The Vinson Health Center is the student health center for Midwestern State University. Ambulatory care services are provided for the exclusive benefit of MSU students. Medical services are designed to meet the needs of students with acute illnesses and/or injuries. The Health Center utilizes an emphasis on preventative medicine to enable students to focus on the university curriculum and campus life.
Additional services to promote wellness are provided to ensure each student maintains a state of optimal health. The Health Center serves as a resource for developmental programming in areas of health promotion, health maintenance, and health education.
The Vinson Health Center and the Bruce and Graciela Redwine Wellness Center are located on the southeast corner of Louis J. Rodriguez Drive and Midwestern Parkway. The Vinson Health Center entrance is on the east side of the building, with parking adjacent.
Students enrolled in the current semester at Midwestern State University are eligible for services. Health services are available only while classes are in session.
Students are seen by appointment, which may be made in person, or by calling 397-4231. A limited number of walk-in appointments are available, as the schedule permits.
Although the Vinson Health Center provides a wide range of care, there are some services outside the scope of the care offered. In these situations, the Health Center can provide a referral to an appropriate practitioner or other health care provider within the community.
After hours, if a student has an urgent health care need, that is not an emergency, they may contact their primary care provider or utilize the MSU referral system. Students should contact the campus police or a resident hall advisor to obtain a referral. Students are responsible for charges incurred. Students will not be required to pay at the time of the visit, but will receive a bill from the Vinson Health Center for the charges.
In the event of an emergency, dial 9-911 from any campus phone to access emergency services. Any campus emergency should be sent directly to the hospital of the student's choice by ambulance. After notifying the ambulance, contact the University Police, ext.4239 and the Vinson Health Center, ext. 4231. Any hospital charges incurred will be the responsibility of the student. The Vinson Health Center will assist students with the ambulance charges incurred if an ambulance is called to the MSU campus to transport a student. The student should be told to contact the Vinson Health Center for information concerning the process for reimbursement.
Prescriptions written at Vinson Health Center can be filled at any pharmacy in the State of Texas. Midwestern State University has a contractual agreement with Trott's Callfield Drug Store to provide prescription medications at a discounted rate for enrolled MSU students. Students may receive this discount at Trott's Call Field Drug Store by showing their validated MSU I.D. card.
